Why I Teach at CPLS: God in His amazing, and often mysterious plan, has brought me and my family here. After teaching science in a public school for 11 years, God challenged me to step out of my patterns and change careers for awhile. I had always wanted to take serious time and dig in God’s Word and that is what we decided to do, so we went to seminary. We moved to Kentucky, so I could attend Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. While at school, I came to the affirmation that teaching was the occupation that I was best able to glorify God in. I have always loved teaching and am grateful for the path that the Lord has brought us on. CPLS has a deep desire to help students form their Christian faith through education which in turn glorifies God. The student learns that their life is a vessel for the Lord to use for his glory. That is a beautiful thing.
Personal Testimony: I grew up in a Christian family and was fairly compliant, so I didn’t get into a lot of trouble. The appearance of righteousness didn’t make me a perfect child because many of the wrong things that I did were done in my thoughts and attitudes rather than my actions. At the age of 12 while attending a yearly church camp, God graciously showed me that I needed to humble myself before Him and repent of my sin and trust in Christ for salvation.
Through high school and college, God graciously worked in me and continued to show me my sin and call me toward righteousness. After being married in 1996, my wife Shari and I moved to Montana where the Lord continued to teach me about himself through fellow believers and Bible study. This was a great time of growth and whittling of my character. After 12 years in Montana, God moved our family to Louisville, Kentucky, so that I could attend Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He made a way where there was no way and worked in shaping and forming us through the Body of Christ. God is showing me that I do not deserve His grace but He still calls me His child. I am continuing to be humbled and grateful for the love that God has shown through His son Jesus Christ.
